Slaughterhouse wastewater presents major treatment challenges: high BOD/COD, suspended solids, and fats, oil & grease (FOG). Without proper pretreatment, these pollutants overwhelm biological systems and risk regulatory non-compliance.
Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) is the industry-preferred solution for Slaughterhouse wastewater pretreatment. This article presents our recent Philippines project featuring a 12.5 m³/h DAF system designed specifically for meat processing wastewater.
Project Overview
We recently supplied and installed a 12.5 m³/h DAF system for a slaughterhouse facility in the Philippines. The system handles peak flows while consistently removing FOG and suspended solids before biological treatment.
How DAF Technology Works
DAF removes pollutants by dissolving air into water under pressure, then releasing it at atmospheric pressure to form millions of microbubbles. These bubbles attach to suspended particles and oil droplets, floating them to the surface where a skimmer removes the sludge layer. Clean water exits from the bottom.
Why DAF for Slaughterhouse Wastewater?
High-Efficiency FOG Removal – Removes up to 95% of fats, oil, and grease, preventing accumulation and fouling in downstream biological systems.
Reliable Solids Separation – Handles fluctuating influent quality while maintaining >90% TSS removal, even with slaughterhouse waste streams.
Protects Biological Treatment – Reduces organic loading on downstream processes, extending media life and reducing aeration requirements.
Compact Design – Requires minimal footprint compared to conventional clarifiers—ideal for facilities with space constraints.
Lower Operating Costs – Reduces grease-related maintenance and sludge disposal costs significantly.
With DENR enforcing strict wastewater discharge standards, Filipino slaughterhouses need reliable treatment solutions. Our DAF systems help facilities achieve compliance while protecting downstream biological processes.
The 12.5 m³/h DAF system at our Philippines project demonstrates effective Slaughterhouse wastewater pretreatment. By removing FOG and solids upfront, it ensures stable downstream performance and regulatory compliance.
